Background
n 1992 Bangladesh Rehabilitation Centre for Trauma Victims (BRCT) get started its legendry journey with the initiation of a leading and successful Human Right activist of Bangladesh, pioneer in Human Rights in Bangladesh Mr. Akram H. Chowdhury as a follow up to the national workshop on "Human Rights: Rehabilitation of Trauma Victims" held in Dhaka on February 25-26,1992 with a promise to provide human assistance to the torture survivors of the country.
Since the inauguration of Bangladesh Rehabilitation Center for Trauma Victims (BRCT) is devoted to serve mankind specially who are mal-treated by the Law Enforcing Agencies like- Police, BDR, Army etc. BRCT was born and brought up to remain beside the tortured and mal treated indifferent to race or religion, sex or age.
Govt. recognitions:
The BRCT is initially registered with the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Bangladesh, as a non-profit making, non-governmental organization (vide registration # Dhaka-02892, 06/03/93). Later, it is also registered with the NGO Affairs Bureau of Bangladesh (vide registration # 1055, 06/08/96).
Treatment history:
BRCT began to work offering medical treatment for a number of torture victims on 25 February 1992 with having an exclusive support from foreign medical experts. The experts expressed their opinion that such centre would serve for the benefit of many torture-victims existing in Bangladesh, particularly those who suffered during the last military regime. Simultaneously, the torture survivors and their family members expressed their need to support the development and establishment of such a center. This concurrent need and essentiality resulted in the formation of Bangladesh Rehabilitation Centre for Trauma Victims (BRCT). Now BRCT is the first, foremost and only organization of its kind working for the torture victims in Bangladesh. |
