Every great work demands research; publication and documentation is prime requirement for any research work. Fortunately BRCT drives a very successful exertion regarding documentation and publication process and they got a very rich library for getting information especially on torture incidents by the law enforcing agencies of the country.  

BRCT is running a Documentation Centre, the only centre in Bangladesh having information and documents on human rights topics focusing on torture. The documentation centre is regularly maintaining communication with local and international organizations to collect reports.

The most expanding activities of the organization are BRCT Documentation unit. BRCT by using regular Internet facilities collected many books, reports from different organization and newsletters. It has also created scope for the users to enjoy new collections of information. A good number of readers are regularly collecting materials from the library. BRCT is also providing photocopy service to the users on request.

Running of Documentation Centre:
Besides the regular work of Documentation Centre, which includes readers’ service, feature services, collecting library materials etc. also developing and updating the home page of the organization. The documentation Centre regularly maintaining letter correspondences with 80 local and international documentation centres/ organizations for collecting their complimentary publications. For this purpose a database program has been developed and maintaining at the Centre. Regular updating of both manual and computerized cataloguing system is as ongoing activity of the Centre.  The Documentation Centre also keeps in contact with the local media and publishes articles on different issues related to human rights and torture and preserves it for the readers, especially who are involved in research work. The Documentation Centre also using Internet facilities and collecting international documents. BRCT documentation center has another intention to collect constitutions of other countries, which it makes available for it’s readers. A number of readers and foreign visitors expressed their important remarks on the library during their visit to BRCT.

Library arrangement system:
Books, reports and various pamphlets are kept catalogued and classified. Catalogue cards are prepared for each book.  Subject-wise classification is maintained.

Authorized numbers and catalogue cards are kept preserved in the catalogue cabinet and the reading materials are kept arranged in the subject-wise Book Shelves. Index Cards for the Magazines, Newsletters, Bulletins and Seminar Reports are also maintained.

Borrowers:
Research workers, journalists and human rights workers can borrow from this library. There is an open membership system for every reader.

The most important work that has been achieved in 2001 is the development of BRCT’s own home page. Its home page is already in the air during the last quarter of the year and the address is www brct.org. But it is now in construction face. BRCT provided training on "Web page design" to one of the staff that has designed and developed the first stage of the home page.
