Mr. Annisul Huq, President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) took over the charge of the President of SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SAARC CCI) at a ceremony held on yesterday (17/01/2010) at a city hotel. Advocote Abdul Hamid M.P, Hon'ble Speaker of the National Parliament, Mr. Abul Maal A. Muhith, Honourable Minister for Finance, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, Mr. G. M. Kader, Hon'ble Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism, Mr. Tariq Sayeed, outgoing President of SAARC CCI and Mr. Abul Kashem Ahmed, First Vice-President of FBCCI and the newly elected Vice President of SAARC CCI were also present.

Samad, Executive Chairman of Board of Investment (BOI) as Chief Guest addressing a Seminar on 'Regional Cooperation in South Asia: Potential Sectors for Joint Ventures & Investment' jointly organized by the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SAARC CCI) at a city hotel on Monday (18/01/2010). Mr. Annisul Huq, President of SAARC CCI and FBCCI, Mr. Tariq Sayeed, outgoing President of SAARC CCI, Mr. Abul Kashem Ahmed, First Vice-President of FBCCI and the newly elected Vice President of SAARC CCI and Mr. Iqbal Tabish, Secretray General of SAARC CCI were also present.

FBCCI Business Delegation visited Germany, France, Switzerland and Italy to pursue FDI and export promotion
A forty two member business delegation of FBCCI visited Germany, France, Switzerland and Italy during 4-16 October, 2009 in order to attract investors and increase export. Mr. Kamaluddin Ahmed, Director of FBCCI led the delegation while Mr. Annisul Huq, President, FBCCI joined the delegation in Geneva, Switzerland.
Other members of the FBCCI delegation were FBCCI Directors Mr. Anwar Hossain, Mr. Nizam Uddin Ahmed, Al-haj Balayet Hossain, Mr. Md. Aminul Bari & Mr. Md. Hasen Ali and the General body members of FBCCI.
During the visit the FBCCI delegation had meetings with the leaders of the apex trade body of each countries- Frankfurt Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Chambre de Commerce et d'Industrie de Paris, Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services of Geneva and Confindustria, Confederation of Italian Industrialists. The FBCCI Ieaders discussed with their counterparts the ways and means to develop bilateral trade and economic cooperation with Bangladesh. The FBCCI delegation had been comprised with the Presidents of district Chambers and the potential trade associations of the country. The regional chamber leaders pursuade the European business community for investment especially in the agro-based industry in Bangladesh. The delegation also attended meetings with the officials of Bangladesh missions in these countries.
FBCCI as part of its vision 2021 organized this tour especially to project the opportunities for the foreign investors available here and to inform about our diversified export basket. The private sector leaders expected that this tour would open the way to expansion of Bangladeshi products in the west-European market.

Discussion Meeting between FBCCI and Bhutan Delegation
Business leaders for acclerating connectivity
Business leaders of FBCCI emphasised on acclerating the connectivity between Bangladesh and Bhutan. Terming Bhutan as a promising trade partner the FBCCI leaders urged their counterparts to come forward for solving existing problems in enhancing bilateral trade. The business leaders were speaking at a discussion meeting with a high powered visiting delegation of Bhutan on 3 October, 2009 at FBCCI Board Room. Mr. Lyonpo Khandu Wangchuk, Hon'ble Minister of Economic Affairs of Bhutan led the eight member delegation. Mr. Annisul Huq, President, FBCCI chaired the meeting while the senior Directors of FBCCI attended. Mr. Bap Kesang, Ambassador of the Bhutanese Embassy, Officials of Bhutan Finance Ministry, leaders of Bhutan Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the resepensatives of tourism sector of Bhutan attended the meeting.

An FBCCI delegation attended a Round Table on SME development in New Delhi, India during 24-25 September, 2009. The delegation included Mr. Md. Jashim Uddin, Director, FBCCI, Mr. Md. Nazibar Rahman, former Director, FBCCI and Mr. Ruhul Amin, a general body member of FBCCI.
FBCCI Committee formed to investigate the sugar scam and
to recommend for stabilizing the price of essentials
FBCCI on 30 September, 2009 formed a Committee to investigate the sugar scam and to find out the ways of controlling the price of sugar as well as other essential goods. It will also submit recommendations for price stability in the market. The FBCCI Committee will find out reasons behind the abnornal rise of sugar price. It may be mentioned that the government had fixed the sugar price at mill gates at Tk. 39 a kg. and Tk. 42 at retail level recently. The FBCCI committee will suggest the measures to reduce the sugar price and to keep the price of essentials at tolerable level. The Committee will submit a report to the President, FBCCI by 14 October, 2009.

Bangladesh participation in International Conference on “Quality of Growth: Approaches to Inclusive Growth in Asian Societies”
Mr. Abul Kashem Ahmed, First Vice President of FBCCI attended a high profile Regional Conference Asia on Quality of Growth with the approaches to inclusive development in Asian Societies.
The conference was organized by GTZ German Technical Cooperation in New Delhi during 14-17 Septermber 2009 in association with the Planning Commission of India and the Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany.
About 300 delegates from the Asian region attended the above high profile International Conference including eminent scholars, economists from U.K. U.S.A, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, GTZ. |
Seminar organised by FBCCI on 'Outsource to Bangladesh' held in Arizona, USA
The largest CIO (Chief Information Officers) Summit of IT Executives was held on 9 and 10 September 2009 in Arizona, USA. Representatives from about 150 world renowned companies including Fortune-500 awarded more than 70 companies perticipated in the Summit. FBCCI organized a Seminar on ”Outsource to Bangladesh” in the Summit on 9 September, 2009 in cooperation with US based Mi3. Hon’ble Commerce Minister of Bangladesh Mr. Muhammad Faruk Khan, M.P, FBCCI President Mr. Annisul Huq and Mr. Sajib Wazed Joy attended the Seminar as the representatives of Bangladesh and presented papers on prevailing situation and future prospects of the IT sector of Bangladesh.

FBCCI Delegation met Hon'ble President of Bangladesh
A 29 member delegation of FBCCI led by President Mr. Annisul Huq met the Hon'ble President of Bangladesh Mr. Md. Zillur Rahman on 30 August. 2009 at Bangabhaban. Mr. Abul Kashem Ahmed, First Vice President, FBCCI, Mr. Abu Alam Chowdhury, Vice President and the Directors of FBCCI were also present. Hon'ble President Mr. Md. Zillur Rahman emphasised expansion of international market for the country's export-oriented industries in line with increasing investment in various sectors with a view to building a happy and prosperous Bangladesh by 2021. During the meeting, the Hon'ble President expressed his firm belief that the people would be able to free the country from hunger and poverty utilising the latest information technology by its golden jubilee of independence in 2021. The Hon'ble President also urged the business community to act responsibly to keep prices of essentials within the purchasing capacity of the common people during Ramadan.

A discussion Meeting between the Business leaders of FBCCI and the Fasialabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Pakistan was held on 17 August 2009 at FBCCI Board Room. Mr. Abul Kashem Ahmed, acting President of FBCCI chaired the meeting while the Directors of FBCCI and the General Body members attended. Mian Hamid Javed, President of Fasialabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Pakistan led a eleven member Pakistan delegation with the representatives of Textile and Garments Sector etc.
